The Air Jordan 5 is one of the most coveted silhouettes made by the brand.Dubbed the Air Jordan 5 NRG Fresh Prince, this iteration of the model opts for an Air Jordan 5 Grape color scheme as White, Grape Ice, Black, and New Emerald can all be found on the leather shoe. Smith’s—and his character’s—Philly heritage is also acknowledged via a debossed “West Philadelphia” hit directly above the tongue mesh.  Inspired by the WWII Mustang fighter plane, the Air Jordan 5 Retro features forward-thinking design and materials that have been able to remain timeless through the years.  First released in 1990, the shoe grew to prominence due to incredible colorways like the famous “Grape” iteration, as well as high-profile endorsements from the likes of Will Smith. What comes to mind when you think of the Air Jordan 5? Is it the legendary “Grape” colorway from 1990? Or maybe even the man who famously wore them, Will Smith. After rumors of the Grape 5’s returning this year, a new leak from our friends Py_Rates says that the rumors are true- and that Jordan Brand has enlisted the help of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air himself for an official collaboration. What really gives the shoe the Fresh Prince vibes is the decision to remove the customary lacing system by sealing the lace holes, resulting in a slip-on design, much like Will used to wear on your favorite 90’s sitcom. For a finishing dash of retro flair, the shoe also boasts Fresh Prince-inspired insoles and classic Nike branding.Key features in the design are the reflective tongue, lace locks and translucent rubber outsole.

Nike Air Foamposite Pro Solar Red,Tapping Will Smith for a purple-based Air Jordan 5 project is a brilliant move from the brand. Smith is almost universally known for his portrayal as himself, the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, on the classic 90’s tv shoe of the same name. At the time, Smith was still considered one of the world’s most stylish rappers, particularly because of his penchant for wearing incredible sneakers both on and off the show. Its mix of white, purple, and aqua screams epochal early 90’s style, and it was first made iconic by a TV show that also boasts a lofty standing in the annals of pop culture history: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, starring a young Will Smith. The only thing Jordan Brand might have left out was “Nike Air” branding on the back heels. Perhaps the most famous images of Smith in Air Jordan’s came from one of the show’s promo images, which showed young Will relaxing in an ornate chair, prominently displaying the “Grape” Air Jordan 5. Now, Will Smith is lending his name to the brand for a new release of the shoe.

Nike Air Jordan Sneakers,This make-up takes the same plastic netting from the sidewalls of the shoe and stretches it across the tongue, creating a flexible lacing system that adjusts for each wearer’s foot.Other details on the shoe include the “West Philadelphia” text underneath the tongue, Nike Air branding on the heels and Fresh Prince inspired insoles. Smith’s character was known for his flashy outfits and use of bright colors, and Jordan Brand has already nodded to the Fresh Prince’s influence on the silhouette’s legacy with 2013’s “Bel-Air” 5s, but now they’re taking the inspiration even further with a recently revealed 2018 iteration of the “Grape” 5s.It’s also been reported that a special Friends and Family edition of the sneaker should be revealed soon. While the project with Will Smith is the first to include the laceless design, it will be interesting to see if Jordan Brand continues to release similar builds.
